fixed braces

At Bedford Specialist Orthodontics, as well as traditional fixed metal braces, we offer tooth-coloured or clear fixed braces that work the same way as metal braces but are much more discreet.

Iconix Champagne metal-coloured brackets

Iconix braces are a great option for patients seeking effective orthodontic treatment with a more discreet, stylish look. Their soft champagne-gold finish complements the natural colour of your teeth, making them far less visible than traditional silver braces.

These braces provide the same strength and reliability as standard stainless-steel brackets, ensuring predictable and successful results. Produced by American Orthodontics, Iconix braces are designed for high performance and feature smooth, rounded brackets for enhanced comfort. They’re an excellent choice for both teens and adults who want to maintain confidence throughout their treatment.

Tooth-coloured Ceramic Braces

If you want straighter teeth but are concerned about how you’ll look with metal braces, we offer an alternative. Clear Braces consist of transparent or tooth-coloured brackets which are discreet and are virtually invisible so you’ll look great throughout your treatment. They still provide the same fabulous results.

The brackets are made from clear ceramic material, which blends with the natural colour of your teeth. They blend in with your natural teeth and are suitable for both adults and children.

Ceramic tooth-coloured Braces FAQs

What food and drink should I avoid with ceramic braces?

While ceramic braces are durable and resistant to stains, they and the clear elastics on the brackets can discolour if you frequently consume foods and drinks with a strong colour. We recommend keeping to a minimum foods and drinks such as red wine, tea, coffee, tomatoes, curry sauce, beetroot. To maintain the discreet appearance of your treatment, we recommend rinsing your mouth regularly.

In addition, to save your brackets and wires from breaking off or bending, it’s also good practice to avoid hard, sticky and crunchy foods.

Are ceramic braces uncomfortable to wear?

Much like any orthodontic treatment designed to move the teeth, you can expect some level of discomfort when the braces are first fitted and usually again after each adjustment. However, unlike metal braces renowned for their sharp edges, the brackets of ceramic braces are small and rounded. Patients should experience minimal irritation to the gums and surrounding mouth area.

How should I take care of my ceramic braces?

It’s best to brush, floss and rinse your teeth thoroughly after every meal. Avoid hard, crunchy and sticky foods and fizzy soft drinks. Visit our Brace Care Videos page for more tips.
